March: helpful/ obedient/ spring cleaning/ Easter

Song:

Jesus was a Helper

Jesus was a helper and so am I

Jesus was a helper and so am I

I can pick up all my toys

I can pick up all my toys

Jesus was a helper and so am I

Jesus was a kind friend and so am I

Jesus was a kind friend and so am I

I can share my books and ball

I can share my books and ball

Jesus was a kind friend and so am I

Hymns:

(obedience verses from Once in Royal David’s City Hymn)

And, through all his wondrous childhood,
he would honor and obey,
love and watch the lowly maiden
in whose gentle arms he lay:
Christian children all must be
mild, obedient, good as he.

For he is our childhood’s pattern,
day by day like us he grew;
he was little, weak and helpless,
tears and smiles like us he knew.
and he feeleth for our sadness,
and he shareth in our gladness.

The Good Deed Scouts are a group of bear cubs committed to doing a good deed each and every day. In this Berenstain Bears Living Lights level one I Can Read, scouts Brother, Sister, Cousin Fred, and Lizzy set forth to find a good deed to do. The scouts decide that it is a good idea to help Mama Bear with her every day chores around the tree house. Emergent readers quickly learn that with kindness and cooperation, work gets done and then the fun can begin.

Christianbook.com: Berenstain Bears and a Job Well Done: Jan Berenstain, Mike Berenstain: 9780310712541.

It’s spring cleaning time and Brother, Sister, and Honey Bear need to clean their playhouse. They are quickly distracted so Papa Bear steps in to teach them what the Bible has to say about finishing the job and doing their best.

Jesus Saved Me
(Tune: Jesus Loves Me)

Jesus saved me, this I know.
For the Bible tells me so.
Nailed to the cross for my own sins,
died, and buried, and raised again!
Yes, Jesus saved me!
Yes, Jesus saved me.
Yes, Jesus saved me.
He saved me from my sins.

Resurrection Eggs

In light of the comments received on the Easter post, I decided to post a picture of our Resurrection Eggs. I made these years ago and they’ve held up well. Stretch Mark Mama commented that she’d posted instructions for making your own so I’ll send you over there for the details. She even has a nice little file with relevant verses that you can print out.

Now, you may notice that several of our egg ‘ingredients” differ. This is fine. Mine were created to go with the book Benjamin’s Box, but you can substitute quite nicely with Bible verses. If you can’t find one of the items, just substitute another. You can find yet another set of verses and instructions HERE.

My eggs include:

1- wooden donkey (piece of fur would substitute nicely)

2 – three pennies

3 – piece of bread (this is now VERY stale!)

4 – sticker with praying hands

5 – strip of leather

6 – thorn

7 – nail

8 – dice and spear

9 – gauze

10 – pebble

11 – EMPTY!
